A Good TIP for New Years Eve in Las Vegas
For those of you who have never been to Las Vegas on New Years Eve, here is a good tip for you. STAY IN YOUR HOTEL!
There’s nothing like a true story to help make a point. On December 30, 1998 I was at home listening to the local news. Having just moved to Las Vegas I was interested in hearing about what was going on in the town for New Years. I was completely amazed at what I heard. The newscaster was saying that the casinos would not be allowing anyone into the casino after 6PM!
My wife was at the Mirage at this time and I couldn’t wait for her to come home so I could tell her about what I learned from the news. When she got home I told her what I had heard. She excitedly told me “yeah, that’s what they told me in the poker room at the MIrage too”. As a Matter of fact, the poker room manager gave her “a pass” so she could come back the following nite (New Years Eve).
On New Years Eve, in the afternoon, my wife and I went to the Mirage. She went to the poker room while I walked around the casino. At a point in time I decided I would take the monorail that connects the Mirage and Treasure Island and go over to see Treasure Island. When I came back to the Mirage I was stopped at the door by a security guard who said I could not come in unless I coulod produce a room key to prove I was a guest there. I told him I was not a guest there, but my wife was playing cards in the poker room. He asked me for her name and he called the poker room. After learning that she was, in fact playing poker, he granted me entry to the casino.
Just the other day I saw in the newspaper the reminders about Las Vegas on New Years Eve. The “Strip” will be closed to traffic at 5PM and no one will be allowed in the casinos after 6PM unless they are a guest at that hotel and casino.
Let a word to the wise be sufficient!!!
