Snow in Las Vegas
So, you think it doesn’t snow in Las Vegas? it does……once in a while. December 17,2008 was just such an event and Las Vegas on the Wire was there to capture it.
No, there were no snow plows out. No trucks salting the roads. I mean, really, this is the desert southwest! Being from the east, this writer has seen a few snow storms. This event was not one of them. The locals here in Las Vegas get real excited when a few stray snowflakes fall out the sky and with good reason I suppose, it certainly doesn’t happen often. There was even word around today that there were school closings as a result of this event. I was hard pressed to understand the reason why. As I rode around the city, today, there were no traces of snow in the areas I covered and the streets were quite dry. What one must realize is that the snow line is generally around the 4000 foot mark. You start reaching that mark back in the foothills and I can tell you that in the distance snow was visable low on the mountain slopes. But enough of that, let’s get to the good part. Proof positive that it did, in fact, snow in Las Vegas.
Hope you enjoy seeing this picture. It’s something you don’t see very often!
